By this point we’ve all read JD Vance’s words. If somehow you’ve missed it, here’s a quick recap:
“Why have we let the Democrat party become controlled by people who don’t have children?” he asked. “Why is this just a normal fact of American life, that the leaders of our country should be people who don’t have a personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring, via their own children and grandchildren? When somebody calls out that ‘Look, if you’re a miserable cat lady, you should not force your misery on the rest of the country,’ they just get really upset about it,” Vance said.
I can’t quite get over when people make sweeping comments like this, clearly trying to strike a nerve with their cruelty, all the while seemingly forgetting just how many “miserable cat ladies” have made incredible differences in the world and left lasting impacts on humanity. The idea that one has to have children to have a stake in the future feels like a majority male concept. (A sweeping statement I am making because it seems many men are incapable of caring about anything or anyone until they have a personal stake—a man not realizing women are women until he has a daughter of his own)
